Handcrafted Journal - Guardian Sun Mountain River Valley printmaking tea/ink edge paper
This one-of-a-kind book is filled with hand torn to size, tea dipped edged paper with hand applied double ink edge painting. This is a surprisingly slow and meditative process.
This book is created one page at a time. First, each page is hand torn to size, and folded to fit into a signature (grouping) of pages. Secondly each individual page edge is gently dipped into a warm tea bath, with the excess dripped off. Then while it is still wet, the edge is quickly hand painted with two different ink colors. The wet tea acts similarly to a wet watercolor technique pulling the ink into the areas where only the tea allows the ink to be fluid. Then the second edge of that page is then hand dipped, inked and finally placed to dry by hanging so it remains suspended until dry. Doing each page edge individually is time consuming and creates individual swirls of magical designs on the page edges.
This book also contains heavier printmaking papers, sturdy and can tolerate some wet applications in your filling of the pages.
Covers are hand created with the same process as the inside papers, must remain in a tight book press for at least 24 hours and are left unsealed so the new owner can add their own embellishments to the leaf impressions. This book also includes the same process as the pages by painting with tea and adding ink embellishments on the front cover, framed with cork ribbon. The back cover is solid black. French Link and Coptic binding are used to bring the pages together plus two built-in bookmarks are threaded and adorned for a finishing touch.
